Bournemouth Council Funded Bus Services Consultation

Dear Throop and Muscliff Councillors

For your information a consultation has started today to propose withdrawal of a number of bus services that the Council funds. For your ward this mainly concerns network bus route 41. In addition there are also proposals to increase the fares on school buses to Avonbourne and Harewood, which travel through your ward.

The consultation is available on the council website – www.bournemouth.gov.uk/busroutesconsultation2016

The consultation finishes on 30 May. Paper copies of the consultation will be distributed on the bus and are also available at Castlepoint Library.

The wording from the consultation describing the budget situation is extracted below.

The amount of cash grant Bournemouth Council receives from the Government towards the cost of local services has been reducing each year since 2010, with the Council already receiving 50% less than it did in 2010 - a real cash reduction of £41.4 million. The Government has outlined further reductions for future years.

For a number of years the Council has worked in partnership with the bus operators to reduce the financial commitment, but the ongoing financial situation means that that further savings from this budget need to be proposed for the 2016-17 financial year.

See below for timetable and map of the 41 bus service.
