Gary.

Thank you for your detail reply, you certainly hit the best of times not seeing much problems with parking, if only this was the case most days, but thank you for your visit and this helps me if I get further representations from local residents.

RE: Shillingstone Drive

Dear Councillor Whittaker,

I visited Shillingstone Drive and the roads surrounding Muscliff Primary School on Friday afternoon to observe the issues you raised. I am sure there are occasions when traffic is hindered by parked vehicles of parents picking up their children. However, I am pleased to report that on this occasion there were no such issues observed.

My observations were that the parents were reasonable in their parking, there was little impact on the side residential roads which is positive and the parents were generally well behaved in their driving and respect for restrictions in place. The position of the two bus stops on Shillingstone Drive offers passing places for traffic to manoeuvre past parked vehicles. There was a bus learner driver that came through the route and this did cause a small issue, as it took longer than usual for this larger vehicle to pass. However, the bus did manage to pass the parked vehicles and continued along the Drive, only causing a minor delay for some motorists.

From my observations, in comparison with a number of other schools in the Borough, I thought the parking and traffic around Muscliffe School was relatively good. I spoke to the School Crossing Patroller while I was there and he did say that Friday was particularly good in terms of traffic issues. There could be a number of reasons for this. I will visit on another occasion to try and get a better view of the issues, perhaps on a wet day when parents are more likely to drive. It may be that it would be useful to meet with you and someone from the school in the near future to discuss your concerns in detail, if you think this would be helpful?

If you require any further information please let me know.

Thank you, regards,
Gary Powell
