Bournemouth Council Mutual Exchange Event

Bournemouth Council Housing team are soon to be holding a multi-agency mutual exchange event. We are running the event in conjunction with the majority of the other Registered Social Landlords for Bournemouth, Poole and surrounding areas. We are expecting a high turnout.

For those who may be unaware of the process, a mutual exchange is where two or more tenants decide to effectively swap their properties and their tenancies. It enables landlords to encourage people to reside in the correct size property for their households.

The need for events such as this has become more prominent recently, following recent welfare reform changes. Not only does mutual exchanges help with things such as the social housing size restrictions it also helps lower the waiting list for social housing. There may be financial incentives for those downsizing but this is landlord specific. Bournemouth Borough Council's policy on downsizing has recently changed and there is also a leaflet (see below) to explain this. The practical and financial incentives have increased, and we are hoping this will further encourage people to leave larger properties with spare bedrooms.

The event will be held:

Thursday 27th February 2014 between 3pm and 8pm. This is a drop in session and residents can turn up at any time and stay as long as they want to.

Kinson Community Centre Main Hall,
Millhams Lane,
BH10 7LH
