Your Ward Your Volunteers in the Royal Horticultural Society Its Your Neighbourhood Awards

Good Afternoon Councillors

Bournemouth Parks department is dedicated to helping volunteer groups keep our town looking the best in the country. We would like to highlight the successes of the wide range of 'green' volunteers who do such fantastic work in your wards. The Royal Horticultural Society runs a scheme 'It's Your Neighbourhood Award' which is designed to encourage volunteer groups who take part in community participation, environmental responsibility or gardening achievements.

This is not a competition. Each group that enters is visited by an expert from the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) who will provide invaluable feedback and encourage on-going improvements. There are five levels of achievement which range from Establishing, Improving, Developing, Thriving and finally outstanding. All the groups receive a RHS certificate of achievement. It's free to take part and only requires a simple entry form to be filled in.

Eight groups from Bournemouth took part last year and they all thought it was thoroughly worthwhile. One of the groups 'The Friends of Boscombe Gardens' received an outstanding award for a first time entry which is a fantastic achievement.

If you have any volunteer groups in your wards who you think deserve some recognition or expert advice then please pass on the entry form. The Its Your Neighbourhood Award Advice Park can be seen below if you need any further information. The scheme is run by the regional In Bloom group, South and South East England in Bloom, and they will co-ordinate the judging in the area.

Many thanks for your attention

Chris Evans,
Nursery Manager, Bournemouth Borough Council
